Books have been our companion for a long time. They have provided us entertainment, knowledge and sometimes act smartly as conversation starters! Although the number of the books in the market is getting astronomical and there seem to be many equally interesting options in the audio-visual medium, some books still stand out. Help us find them. Tell us and others about them!

HOW TO DO THAT?

Mail us your book summary in a Word Document with:

1) Name of the Book 2) Author Name 3) Reviewer Name (you!) and the Review of course,

at escribespublications@yahoo.com with Book Review in the subject line of the mail.

Share your opinion of a book in 300-600 words and let us know if you want others to read a book and why.

What kind of books can you review?

Fiction, non-fiction, autobiography, memoir. The book has to be interesting and you must have an interesting way to talk about the book, that's all.

Here are a few points to keep your book review crisp and interesting.

Do-s

  • If the author is debutante, chart out the books ability to tell a story foremost, with a keen eye on the strength to "turn a phrase" or "rhetoric" or such.
  • If the author is already a published writer, compare the present novel with his previous work.
  • Write about the storyline with regards to its atmosphere, the setting, the timeline or the language. Appreciate the structure, the narrative.
  • Gauge the strength of his work within his genre or compare it with other genres.
  • Talk about the main characters such as to make them compelling enough to read about them, if you find them so.

 Don'ts

  • A book review is hence different from a summary of the book; a critic should not end up providing a rehashed version of the story.  A book review is not a scheme to kill the plot.
